Project Specifications:
The International Leadership of Texas, Ramirez K-8 School broke ground in June 2021 with its mission to prepare students for leadership roles in the international community and provide them with the best learning environment. The grand brick entrance, classical columns and moldings, and cool colors of the building design create a welcoming and empowering space for students’ kindergarten through 8th grade learning inside its walls.
The Ramirez school exemplifies the ability of EIFS to serve the growing preference toward multi-clad aesthetic while maintaining the necessary building performance through continuous insulation and moisture management. It also demonstrates the EIFS industry’s opportunity to gain wall space from traditional claddings, in this project the traditional masonry installation method was being replaced with EIFS.
The original design called for insulated lath and scratch to be used in areas where thin brick was to be installed, puncturing the underlying critical heat, air and moisture control layer, and potentially leading to air and water infiltration. The EIFS contractor brought to the Architect and General Contractor EIFS as a best practice method for construction to reduce complexity between claddings and ensure uniformity in the installation. By using MaxGrip Veneer Mortar to apply the thin brick, the lath and fasteners were eliminated, keeping the underlying air water-resistive barrier intact.
The EIFS contractors were given 6 months to complete this project before the doors opened for the new school year. Replacing the traditional methods of adhering the thin brick increased their efficiency while reducing waste and cost, allowing them an on-time completion of this project.
