EIFS Standards & ICC-ES Acceptance CriteriaEarly in its founding, EIMA members developed the early industry standards for EIFS that became the foundation for the ASTM standards on which this wonderful exterior cladding solution now lies. Further, EIMA established the product acceptance criteria at the International Code Council’s Evaluation Service that now provides assurance to the over 40,000 U.S. code jurisdictions that EIFS are safe, tested, and reliable, an action that eventually led to the inclusion of EIFS into the International Building and International Residential Codes in 2009. A listing of the consensus standards is below.
EIFS Standards Conversions: EIMA to ASTMFrequently, EIMA is asked for copies of its former standards. These standards are no longer supported by EIMA and are out of print as they are now ASTM standards. If you have the name of the previous EIMA standard, you can find the replacement ASTM standard on the EIMA to ASTM conversion chart.
EIMA Standard Development Operating ProceduresEIMA is a standards development organization (SDO) accredited by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI). Within the last year, EIMA has had its procedures audited by ANSI to assure that EIMA standard development procedures met ANSI’s rigorous requirements for consensus, openness, lack of dominance, and balance. As part of its obligation and commitment to openness, a copy of EIMA’s standard development procedures can be found below.
ANSI/EIMA 99-A-2017:
ANSI/EIMA 99A – 2017 embodies the minimum requirements for specifying and installing Exterior Insulation and Finish Systems (EIFS) and EIFS with Drainage. The generic materials, details, and design considerations for EIFS and EIFS with Drainage are described in this standard. For specifications, application instructions, and details specific to a particular EIF System, consult the EIFS manufacturer’s product literature. In addition, care has been taken to incorporate the reference documents that constitute provisions of this American National Standard. The Annex contained in this standard is considered part of the standard. The standard is available in both English and Spanish in the EIMA Bookstore.
