EIMA proudly announced the distinguished winners of the 2023 EIFS Architectural Awards at a ceremony on March 13, 2024, at its Annual Meeting in Dallas, TX. The awards celebrate exceptional projects clad with exterior insulation and finish systems (EIFS), renowned for their superior performance, sustainability, durability, and aesthetic flexibility in building envelope solutions.

2023 Hero of the Year Award
Kaleideum Children's Museum
Winston Salem, NC Category: Institutional EIFS Manufacturer: Sto Corp. Contractor: Second Wind Solutions Distributor: Colonial Materials Owner: Kaleideum Architect: Gensler This project connects Winston-Salem’s arts and cultural district to the north with its historic civic district to the south. Spanning five stories and nearly 70,000 square feet, the building offers diverse perspectives through its design, inspired by kaleidoscopic geometric forms. The exterior features over 160 EPS shapes, creating a faceted look, with an EIFS finish that ensures a self-cleaning, super-hydrophobic surface resembling smooth limestone. Brightly colored triangular accents add vibrancy to the predominantly white exterior. |

Owner: Whitecap Dakota First Nation Architect: AODBT Architecture + Interior Design / Lemay Michaud Architecture Interior Design Built on Whitecap Dakota First Nation land in the heart of the Saskatchewan Prairies, this $38 million hotel draws inspiration from the surrounding landscape and community heritage. Featuring asymmetrical oblique lines reminiscent of the vast prairies and traditional tepees, the hotel's architectural design reflects the area's natural beauty and cultural significance. EIFS was chosen for its energy efficiency and versatile design options, enabling the creation of a modern and dynamic exterior. |
315 College Main
College Station, TX Category: High-rise EIFS Manufacturer: Sika Facades - Parex Contractor: Galindo & Boyd Distributor: FBM Owner: Parallel CO. Architect: Rhode Partners Inc. This 19-story student-focused high-rise showcases exceptional craftsmanship, featuring over 800 precisely placed EIFS wedges that create striking shadowing and color alignments. The courtyard boasts 322 panels in 7 shades of blue, adding dynamic transformation to the elevations. With 106,000 square feet of EIFS, this masterpiece was completed in just 11 months, employing over 52,000 safe man-hours and utilizing over 4,800 scaffold frames to provide access for 50+ plastering artists. This EIFS project is as a testament to efficiency and aesthetic precision. |

Architect: SB Architects This project consists of a mixture of materials and finishes to convey a contemporary design, with nods to the Texan and Western heritage of North Texas. The exterior veneer included 143,000 square feet of drainage EIFS and 52,000 square feet of a Masonry Veneer System over Continuous Insulation with a natural limestone veneer. |
Covenant Health Hospital
Hobbs, NM Category: Healthcare EIFS Manufacturer: Sika Facades - Senergy Contractor: Trinity Wall Systems Distributor: Texas Stucco Supply Owner: Covenant Health Group Architect: E4H Architecture This project’s design creates a modern aesthetic with a strong connection to the New Mexico landscape. EIFS was chosen for its ability to achieve the desired multiclad aesthetic, the continuous insulation, and a single source warranty. The originally specified traditional masonry was switched to an EIFS Insulated Masonry Veneer System, which allowed for one continuous air water management system behind the traditional EIFS and masonry veneer. |
The Artisan at Tuscan Village

Owner: Tuscan Brands Architect: PROCON Located within the Tuscan Village development in Salem, New Hampshire, this hotel sits at its heart. Inspired by a masonry building observed in Austin, Texas, the owner sought to emulate its rugged charm. By using EIFS with a Tuscan Glaze coating, they successfully recreated the distinctive "rough and ready" masonry wall appearance. This approach met stringent energy codes and was cost-effective. A variety of EIFS finishes and coatings were used, including a metallic coating around the windowpanes. |
Banner Gateway Hospital
Gilbert, AZ Category: Prefabrication/Panelization EIFS Manufacturer: Sto Corp. Contractor: MKB Construction / Kapture Prefab Distributor: FBM Owner: Banner Health Systems Architect: Smith Group A prefabricated approach was chosen for the expansion of this medical campus. 256 Classic EIFS panels, 18 Metal Panels, and 70 Masonry Veneer Panels were used. Panel sizes ranged from the largest at 44 feet by 14 feet, to the typical at 32 feet by 14 feet. Using oversized panels reduced panel count, minimized panel-to-panel joints, optimized tower crane efficiency, and maximized scheduling efficiency. |
Mayo Clinic West Expansion
Phoenix, AZ Category: Prefabrication/Panelization EIFS Manufacturer: Sika Facades - Senergy Contractor: Digital Building Components Distributor: Seneca API Owner: Mayo Hospital Architect: HKS Architects The expansion of this hospital was designed using EIFS to match the existing main building. Prefabricated panels were chosen over field applied EIFS because of lower cost to install, reduced installation time, room for scaffolding, and safety to pedestrian traffic. The façade was comprised of 1,500 panels, which were 24 feet by 15 feet in size. |

Auburn, WA Category: Residential EIFS Manufacturer: Sika Facades - Senergy Contractor: Generation Plastering Distributor: Evergreen Building Products Owner: Auburn City Center Living Associates Architect: Morgan Design Group LLC This senior living complex was originally designed with real brick and wood siding. 80% of the project was switched to EIFS, utilizing wood grain and faux brick effects. Significant savings were achieved, and this project exemplifies EIFS's ability to mimic wood and brick while providing continuous insulation and moisture management. |
