Testing

More than 40 tests and standards, published by well-known organizations such as ASTM, ANSI, UL, ASHRAE, and NFPA, are applicable to EIFS with Drainage or system components. These tests demonstrate durability as well as many other aspects of performance. Durability tests include water resistance, drainage efficiency, weathering, freeze/thaw, wind load, bond strength, wind-driven rain, impact resistance, and thermal performance.

EIFS with Drainage can pass requirements for fire resistance, ignitability, and multistory tests, meeting the standards set forth by each test and enabling use on all construction types. These tests include:
  • Fire Resistance (ASTM E 119)
  • Flame Spread (ASTM E 84)
  • Ignitability (NFPA 268), which tests the product’s ability to resist ignition at 20 minutes of radiant heat exposure
  • Standard Fire Test for Evaluation of Fire Propagation Characteristics of Exterior Wall Assemblies Containing Combustible Components (NFPA 285), a fire test procedure that evaluates the fire performance of exterior wall assemblies

The NFPA 285 test ensures that these systems meet strict safety criteria, addressing concerns about fire propagation. Meeting NFPA 285 requirements is essential for compliance with modern building codes, particularly for non-combustible multistory buildings. This ensures that buildings clad with EIFS with Drainage adhere to the highest safety standards to minimize risks for occupants.
